About three.wild

I was walking down the hill, my eyes fighting back tears. I hadn't been to a Powwow in almost 20 years. I didn't expect to get emotional, but I looked over at my two youngest girls and realized my mom would have been so happy to see us there.

The last time I was at the Kamloopa Powwow was the same year my mom's sisters came to pick her up for rehab. That's the first and only time I met some of my aunties. We strolled the vendors, me and my aunties. I was a little naive as to why they were out visiting from Ontario but I enjoyed getting spoiled.

Then this year...walking down the hill to the beat of the drums, the intensity of their song pounding in my chest. Maybe it's because I'm a musician, an artist... sometimes I just get hit with emotion that only my tears can express.

As I watched the dancers and listened to the drum, it felt like discovery. As an adult and learning what was lost, as an artist and seeing the beauty and detail in the beadwork... I understand that my art isn't traditional, but I also know it's an expression and it tells my story in it's own little ways as I rediscover who I am and who I'm meant to be.

When I started making mosaics I loved the endless possibilities and design elements to it. I loved how ideas could expand into new ideas, adding more and reimagining for the next project. I started creating these mosaic-macrame combos because of my mom. I remember her teaching me how to make dream catchers as a little girl. We used bracelets from the thrift store as our rounds and wrapped the leather around the edge. She sat with me patiently while I learned how to loop the web and add beads and feathers to create something beautiful.

My mom didn't get to teach me much about her culture, probably because she didn't get to learn much about it herself. What she did teach me helped launch me into what I'm doing now with my art. My own intricate designs, learning patiently how all the pieces will come together to make something beautiful.

Well my "last October" has been survival mode for a couple years now, and my "flowers in June" are starting to peek through the soil now. It's been awhile since I've been able to say I'm excited about life, but I think I'm ready to say it...

I'm excited about life again.

You know those songs that somehow know you. You didnt write them but they walk you through times in your life. Whether its angry singing to Alanis Morissette while you drive or playing worship music and pouring out your heart to God. Maybe a little "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" to get the shop vibes going... ok now I'm revealing to you how I get pumped up to work.

Well they evolve. There is no direction, no intention, just some wood and paint and stain and GO.

I'll start in the center. The textures, the colors.... well they somehow manage to flow together despite me not having an end result in mind. I'll stand back, scribble on the backer, make cuts and decide it doesn't look quite right. There is always a point where I have to push through and stop thinking about it and just finish. I usually question why "did I do it that way" then I'll cut off the excess and frame it out and realize how much I love it. The completion feels the best, probably because I am the biggest procrastinator I know. Somehow, someway, each piece reflects a bit of me. I suppose maybe it is a glimpse of time where I just let art flow through me, and redirecting the outcome very much feels like a reflection for life and decisions we make. So here's to hoping... when my life is complete, when the dust has settled and the edges are cut off and the frame is on, I will look at my life and love it just like I do with every mosaic. With love, that I've created something beautiful despite the mistakes I thought I made along the way however in the end it is exactly how it was meant to be.

Well... it's been awhile.

I started Three.Wild back in 2020. It became a season where I was trying to prove something to myself and my three girls while navigating being a single mom. And then I vanished...

Over the years I've had some amazing wins and some pretty hard losses. I got to do some big things musically, like sing on a Stadium Stage with The Rusty Halligans. I was a part of a duo that I was very proud of and did many gigs locally. I did some collab work with my very incredibly talented daughter. I finally got to go moose hunting and fill the freezer (3x's now, I'm very grateful for this opportunity). I've watched AND missed my girls growing up... the whole "time flies" thing is real and how I wish I could snuggle my babies once more. I had the chance to reconnect and reconcile with my beautiful mom before she pased. I've been river floating, traveling, meeting internet friends in person, family trips to the Sunshine Coast. I also fell in love and got a broken heart. There's more... and details, but I'm sure I will touch on the most important parts as later.

I feel like I'm trying to rediscover what Three.Wild is now that time has passed. Originally it was a journey I was taking you on with my artwork and my life... and maybe it remains that way. Maybe it evolves. Maybe my Three.Wild journey is just that... a journey... where life happens, art happens, music, love, wins and losses... but mostly... art.

Well... it's been awhile.

My Beautiful Momma

I promised you I would share your story. I've spent the last 4 months navigating my world, I'm sure you're watching over me.... shaking your head, maybe wishing you could offer advice. I spent so much of my life without you, and your life without me... and I can't put into words the regret I feel that our relationship was so distant. The fear I had as a mother not wanting my girls to be exposed to the generational trauma our family carries. The substance abuse that numbs the pain... but that fear only carried into this new fear and regret... that I lost out, my girls lost out, on knowing you better.

It's crazy to think I did most of this life without you near. But, now that I had you back, just for a glimpse of time... I feel I need you more than ever. I never knew what I was really missing until we laid in your hospital bed... you took your frail arm, and you stroked my hair, and instantly I was a girl who had my mother in what seemed like the first time since I was just a child.

So my beautiful momma, I made you this butterfly because I know they are your favorite. It has your feathers in the wings. I wish it could hang it on your wall, where all your butterflies were, your treasures. I wish I could've reconnected with you before you were sick and that I didn't take the gift of time for granted... because what I would give to just sit and laugh with you again.

This is just the beginning of me sharing your story.

I promised you I would share your story. I've spent the last 4 months navigating my world, I'm sure you're watching over me.... shaking your head, maybe wishing you could offer advice. You're still with us, we are facing your final days. I've gone back and forth on whether I should jump into social media....

My childhood let me believe you left because of your addictions, and yes, there is truth to that... there is still so much more.

There is your side of the story, your journey, your generational trauma that let you believe you were not enough, that you couldn't fight that feeling of unworthiness.

Mom, the world should know you. I promise, I will share your story. And I promise your story will help others, other mommas heal and reunite with their babies.

Your difficulties, your experience, your life will bring healing to others.... just as we have healed over the past few days.

There is beauty in the stillness when watching the sunrise. Standing there while the light peeks over the horizon.

If you take the opportunity to just stand in it, feel it... even if you close you eyes you can't escape the presence of it. To take those few seconds and just breath and exist. To focus on whats happening while the world changes from dark to light and witness the beauty of those few moments while the colors dance over the sky and reflect onto the world around us. I love how we get so many reminders in creation that everything, everyday, has beauty in it.

April 2019. I stood looking at myself in the mirror.
I had dropped to 102 lbs.
My body reflected my mind
Broke
Frail
Beat
Worn
That moment was pivotal. I saw what was left of myself and vowed I would never get that low ever again.

I was faced with the reality of my decade long marriage being over. My security and dreams of the future ... forever changed. I had no job, no savings, no idea what to do next. I was left to navigate the next steps while trying be a mother to my girls.

It was a moment where fighting for something out of my control had ended...
It was a moment of beauty...
Of opportunities...

Who was I? Who did I want to be for my girls?

It was during the next few months I had a dream of pursuing what I now call three.wild.
It was during this time I chose to nurture my love for music again.

And while I've still fallen short during these past few years in many ways... I feel like I've neglected important parts that make me.. me. I've also been able to find grace for myself while navigating this life.

This recording is from May 2019. This song brings me back to a moment in time.
A reminder to never take life or people for granted. Encouragement that there is always a place to pivot from. And even though at the point of recording this video I would look at myself now and shake my head a bit, the me now has learnt so much about myself and I'm proud of all I've learnt through my mistakes along the way.

Seasons...

It's been awhile, and I've been putting off coming back to this page. I've been existing, creating, living, accomplishing dreams, and going through the motions life brings, the ups and the downs.

But I needed a break... maybe it was to escape and live a life outside the realms of social media... or maybe it was an escape of letting social media in on the reality of my life...

But I'll tell you, I've lived a lot in the past seasons.

This morning I ventured out to nurture my soul a bit - take my camera out and look at things through a different "lens".
The dead grass peeking through the blanket of snow...
The sunlight hugging the world through the clouds
........I saw something

... in the presence of death there is always light
... in the presence of light there is always death

They can't go without each other however within it all there is always new growth and there is always new seasons.

I took this picture 3 times... three.wild (coincidence I'm not sure)
Each picture focuses on a different point, however they all make the same picture, they all hold the same detail, the same objects, the same light and dark... but it's a reminder to me how we can focus on one thing and forget the rest of the picture... the light and the death NEED to be together to make way for new seasons... to make way for growth.

I'm excited to come back to this page. To share with you what changes have been made in my life. I'm excited to share with you revelations I've found in myself. I'm excited to create and sing and dance and share how life can unfold within the beauty of changing seasons.

The other day I came across fields of buffalo. I've been trying to embrace more, more moments, stop the truck, take the picture, dance in the rain, smile at something that makes you happy, laugh when no one is around, and give honor to your feelings, good and bad.

My life... I've always been in survival mode. Growing up the way I did enforced that thought process. The weekend I took this picture I made a decision to stop. Something about growing up with less has made me think I'm ok with it... but why? Why do I think it's ok to be in survival mode? Why not strive for more?

And you know what... just that decision, that change in my thought process, that manifestation of greatness is leading my life into a direction. I know this moment in time is pivotal. It's a moment I will look back and say, "I remember how I struggled... how I couldn't pay the bills, how I felt defeated and discouraged."

But I stopped, I saw something beautiful to me and I took the picture. Maybe these buffalo don't mean anything to you but this picture represents a moment where I embraced living in the moment and the beauty and the strength that is to be had if we choose.

Happy Indigenous Day!

Well yesterday was a day. To look at my entrance and see the efforts of my work, my childhood dreams, combine into one day seemed surreal. Art supporting art. I couldn't be more thankful to Eva and Cody at @sweethomeonthelake for taking the risk on my artwork and my singing/performing. I sometimes feel silly being this age and putting myself out there... but I remember I have 3 girls watching me grow, make mistakes, but most importantly they are watching me live passionately towards a life that only I can build. Building it off of what I can do best and not subjecting myself to living/working at something that does not bring joy.

So we are working upwards. Getting better, making more art and practicing daily, and growing where I feel I fail.

Well yesterday was a day. To look at my entrance and see the efforts of my work, my childhood dreams, combine into one day seemed surreal. Art supporting art. I couldn't be more thankful to Eva and Cody at @sweethomeonthelake for taking the risk on my artwork and my singing/performing. Three.wild Momma

My name is Tiana. There are a lot of corners and trails to my soul and heart. I've gotten to this place through conflict and victories. Being a single parent is a struggle, a constant, and many blessings. It's creating a life for me.... me and my girls yes of course... but what I've learnt on this journey is I get to fully explore me again. And that's how woodart came into my life. It was acknowledging what I am passionate about and taking a step into a world of uncertainty. Hoping I could create something people will love. But that's not the only thing I'm allowing myself to move in, and if you've been here awhile you'll see me at the river fishing or playing guitar at night in my living room. These places of quiet and stillness are what help me find strength. Yes... maybe I should work instead of fish in the mornings but sometimes that bit of solitude is all i'll get in a day and sets me up for being productive and clearing my head. Late night jams by myself with a beer...or two... encourages a part of me I neglected for far too many years.

Three.wild is much deeper than the artwork.

Three.wild is me.
Three.wild is art, a journey, navigation, encouraging myself, setting an example for my girls to never deny what talents God has given them.
Three.wild has been my saving grace in many ways. To challenge my mind to think big, to see accomplishments, failures, and to keep going.

Did you know...

I grew up with only wood heat. We spent hours stacking logs strategically on my dad's flat bed truck only for it to roll off the sides when we hit the bumps coming out of the pasture. Bring it to the house...split...stack...repeat.

There was always the hustle as the snow came down because my dad taught me the art of procrastination.

Nothing compares to those crisp fall day memories, the smell of the chainsaw, the fires burning all the brush and branches. It taught me to appreciate how the land provides. It taught me to appreciate my hard working dad. And it has given me a love for firewood season.

One day.... one day.... I will get back in the woods and prepare for the winter instead of switching the switch on my wall. I will gladly split all the wood because that is actually one of my favorite activities. But for now I'll appreciate the memories, and friends who let me swing an ax every now and again. @wandering.sher

My last, my wildest, the one who is a force where ever she goes. She will love you large with her small and mighty banter. She will also be ever so gentle with any living thing. She is kind, smart, beautiful, and has hair that makes me wonder if she is even my child? (Don't worry, I know she is). Her best friend is her cat O.V. and the inspiration and name of her little crochet business. I know I'm pretty blessed to have her in my life, even more so that I get to call her my girl.

I got in the groove... stayed up till 430am with some music and my thoughts. Sometimes late night work nights are the best.

My friend Vivick and I have been discussing this piece for awhile now. It always feels amazing to wrap up a piece and see it framed but for some reason this one just felt extra special.

Maybe it's because his beautiful wife made me and the girls dinner ❤❤❤

Vivick is the main guy up at @quesada_reddeer and I guarantee you should go and eat his food. Local supporting local, can't get better than that.

I'm not trying to force my perspective on you, I'm just sharing my perspective with you. I'm sharing my perspective with my girls.

I've taught them to respect even though we might not see eye to eye with others. I know there has been heartache attached to c***d. Whether you've lost a loved one to the sickness or to family disagreements. I understand there are those who believe in the v** and those who don't.

My truth... my reality. Watching my girls crave for their schools to reopen so they can see their friends. Not being able to go to the pool or movie theaters, restaurants together as a family.
Privileged.... absolutely!!! I'm not complaining it's a choice I've made for my family. We do other things and make the best of it. But sacrifice, big or small, is something every single one of us has done in one way or another during all this.

It's ok if we don't agree. I'll continue to teach my girls to understand your heart comes from a different perspective. And I will ALWAYS teach them hope... respect.... love....

Instead of sending her on the bus this morning, we made a memory!

I remember when I was first separated I went through this stage of "I can conquer the world"

I had every intention to embrace the moments in between. Well, grief is weird thing, and reality hits you sometimes. The first 6 months I seized every moment I could.... followed by conquering the world, then realization and struggle and triggers and...and...and...

Meanwhile I'm still responsible for my three girls, which is probably the hardest reality of it all. Because although I want to seize the day, and make the memories, this last year I spent a lot of time wavering, hurt.

So, here's to a little change in my feed. My business is all about supporting my journey and and my children. But there is so much more to three.wild. Like chasing the sunrise.

I think I'm excited for 2022.

Instead of sending her on the bus this morning, we made a memory!

I remember when I was first separated I went through this stage of "I can conquer the world"

Well my girls have been busy. They made their Christmas projects and half their profits will go towards making packages for the homeless. (Hand Warmers, gloves, coffee gift cards and whatever else we can think of)

I had this moment of clarity the other day, just a significant moment of realization

I Am an Artist.

I am... How did I get so lucky to be able to put my heart and ability into something that is now being valued by others.
This revelation is not undervalued, it's cherished.

I tell ya, when I was able to stand back and see the whole thing together for the first time was a moment that simply took my breath away. To think.... this piece started in my mind, was altered through the process, was created with my hands and heart.

I am still in complete awe that I am able to do this work and it's something that is valued by my customers... by all of you! THANK YOU again and again, I will never be able to fully express how this makes me feel.
